Here are some tips about Prague: 

Food 

Always eat off the main squares and streets, the food and service is better and it is cheaper. Some may give you what appears to be a “welcome” drink or snacks, these will show up on your bill! Stay away from Radegast pub and Seven Angles, they will pad your bill. 

Crime and pickpockets 

Prague is generally a safe place to be, but please be very aware at tourist spots and especially in public transport areas, as they are known as favorite pickpocket areas. Charles Bridge and old town square. Gentlemen WATCH OUT for the girls around Old Town Square, they will pick your pockets! Leave your passports and tickets in the hotel safe, only the Police are allowed to ask you for identification and only if you have committed a crime (like drinking Heineken beer in Prague!).

Changing money 

Use banks or cash points, not places promising  “ No Commission” or Cheque points booths, or hotels as they charge high commission and have bad exchange rates. Note that most restaurants and shops take American Express and Visa. DO NOT CHANGE MONEY ON THE STREET NO MATTER WHAT!

Public transport 

Prague’s public transport is easy to use and you don’t have to wait long to get around. You cannot buy tickets on the tram but ask at the hotel reception. They just cost CZK 20 and they are good for one hour, if you want you can transfer i.e., go from one tram to another or to the metro. BE SURE TO STAMP YOUR TICKETS IN THE YELLOW BOX OR IT IS NOT VALID. Ticket inspectors do not where uniforms, they just have little badges they show you, WATCH OUT FOR PICKPOCKETS! More

Taxis 

Avoid them if you can!  Use your cell phone to call AAA taxi (004202 33 11 33) you will just be charged a small roaming fee, the dispatchers speak English and a computer voice will tell you which number car will come, this number is just in front of the doors by the bonnet. They also have stands around the city.

If you are interested in buying crystal, go to one of the big department stores, Kotva or Tesco (!) as they often have a nice selection at considerably lower prices; just ask the reception where they are located.
